Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 August 2026

The short version. Atlas is free while in preview. You may use it for anything lawful, personal or commercial. Your documents are yours and stay on your machine.

It is provided as-is. Atlas helps you keep track of dates and paperwork, but you remain responsible for your own deadlines, and for keeping backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.

1. Agreement

These terms are between you and SyphonDigital, a sole trader registered in Australia ("we", "us"). By installing or using Atlas ("the software") you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not install it.

2. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Atlas on computers you control, for personal or business purposes. The software is licensed, not sold; we retain all intellectual property in it.

You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the software, present it as your own, or remove its branding. You may not decompile or reverse engineer it except where the law expressly permits you to do so regardless of this clause.

3. Price, and what happens later

Atlas is currently free while in preview. There is no payment, subscription or licence enforcement in the software.

We may introduce paid versions or paid features in future. If we do, the version you have already installed will keep working as it does now. We will not remotely disable, expire or degrade software you already hold.

4. Your content is yours

Every document, note, tag and record you put into Atlas remains yours. We claim no rights over it, and as explained in the Privacy Policy we never receive it. You are responsible for having the right to hold and process whatever you import, and for complying with any law that applies to it.

5. Backups are your responsibility

Atlas keeps your data in one folder on your computer and provides backup, restore and export tools. It cannot protect you from a failed disk, a lost laptop or a deleted folder. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose, ideally on a different device.

If you enable encryption and forget the password, your data cannot be recovered, by you or by us. That is a deliberate property of encryption done properly, and the software warns you before you turn it on.

6. Reminders are a convenience, not a guarantee

Atlas reads dates out of your documents and reminds you about them. Extraction is automatic and can be wrong: a date may be misread, missed entirely, or found in a document that does not mean what it appears to mean. Notifications also depend on your operating system and its settings.

You remain responsible for your own renewals, payments and deadlines. Do not rely on Atlas as your only safeguard against a lapsed policy, an unpaid bill or an expired licence.

7. Atlas does not give advice

Atlas organises documents and adds up figures you have entered. It does not provide financial, legal, tax, medical or insurance advice, and its summaries, spend totals and answers are not a substitute for professional advice or for reading the underlying document.

8. Optional AI answers

If you enable AI answers you supply your own Anthropic API key and are responsible for that key, for the costs Anthropic charges you, and for complying with Anthropic's terms. AI answers can be wrong or incomplete; verify anything that matters against the source document, which Atlas cites for you.

9. Third parties

Where you obtain Atlas through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft's terms also apply to that transaction and distribution. Where you download it directly, you are responsible for verifying what you downloaded; a SHA-256 checksum is published beside the download for that purpose.

10. Warranties and Australian Consumer Law

Except as set out below, the software is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that extraction will be accurate.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), including the Australian Consumer Law, or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where our liability under such a law cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited, at our option, to resupplying the software or paying the cost of resupply.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, and subject to clause 10, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill or business opportunity, arising from your use of or inability to use the software, including any missed deadline, lapsed policy or unpaid liability.

Subject to clause 10, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the software is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim, or AUD $50.

12. Termination

You may stop using Atlas at any time by uninstalling it; your documents remain on your computer. This licence ends if you materially breach these terms, in which case you must stop using and uninstall the software. Clauses 4, 10, 11 and 13 survive termination.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that State and the Commonwealth courts.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms for future versions. Changes apply to versions released after the change; they do not retrospectively alter the terms for a version you already have. The date at the top shows when this page last changed.
